What are Northern Aircrete Domes?

Northern Aircrete Domes Inc. are working to help lessen the housing crisis in Northern Canada by innovating new community-scale production techniques for a versatile, insulative, environmentally-friendly construction material foamed airated concrete.

We will use our locally fabricated concrete blocks to make it easy for residents of remote northern communities to build their own warm, robust, repairable dome-shaped homes.

Currently Northern Aircrete Domes Inc. are developing research protocols, establishing logistic channels and establishing relationships with partners and collaborators.

Why Aircrete?
  • Verstaile: it can be used for both structure and insulation.
  • Shippable: since weight (water) and volume (air) are added locally, shipping costs are minimised.
  • Workable: Northerners can easily build and repair their own homes with simple hand tools
  • Warm: Aircrete is highly insulative
Why Domes?
  • Warm: Domes minimise heat loss for a given volume of livable space
  • Stable: Mechanical stresses are distributed over the entier surface of a dome, allowing for a wider range of materials (like aircrete) to be used for building better homes
  • Robust: Highly resistant to fire, wind stress, snow drifts, snow melt and permafrost shift
  • Beautiful: The uniform exterior surface of a dome present a natural canvas for individual and community experssion.
